Education Sector

  1. AEducation is free till graduation level in all Government educational institutions and free till post graduation level for BPL.
  2. Textbooks, exercise books, uniforms, shoes, raincoats, etc are distributed free to all students.
  3. LKG and UKG classes have been started in all Government Schools.
  4. Chief Minister’s Merit Scholarship-The scheme launched in 2010 provides opportunities for students from weaker sections of the society to study in best and reputed Public Schools in the State and in other parts of the Country. Students who have studied in a Government School from the very beginning and who pass Class V have to qualify through a screening test, after which they are sponsored by the State Government for further studies. Primarily, the Scheme was till Class XII only but from 2016, it has been extended till graduation. Currently, there are more than 750 students being sponsored by the Government.
  5. Chief Minister’s Free Scholarship Scheme- Started in 2010, the Scheme is for students who succeed in getting admission through competitive entrance exam to the top 20 universities of the world for higher studies in any discipline.The Scholarship covers course fee, hostel/accommodation charges,books,stationeries and to and fro travelling charges once a year from the Institute to home Country. Till now three candidates have availed of this facility.
  6. Comprehensive Educational Loan Scheme- It was launched in 2007 for candidates pursuing higher/professional studies in India and abroad. Study Loans are granted free of interest for a period of two years. There are more than 1400 beneficiaries.
  7. Post Matric Scholarship – It is granted to all local students under merit and general category pursuing various courses within and outside the State.
  8. Merit Scholarship – Scholarship ranging from Rs. 800 to Rs.2000 p.m. is awarded to students who secure 70% and above in class XII Board Examination or equivalent.
  9. General Scholarship – All local students securing less than 70% in class XII Board Examination are granted scholarship in selected courses on submission of valid income certificate of Rs.10,000/- p.m. or less for both parents. Further, annual reimbursement of maximum of Rs.10,000/- is also awarded for courses such as MBBS/BDS/BTech/B.Arch and some notified honours courses at graduation level.
  10. Fellowship for M Phil and PhD scholars – It is awarded for pursuing PhD courses @ Rs.6000/- p.m. for regular candidates with subject related to Sikkim with a contingency grant of Rs.16,000/- p.a. for a maximum period of 3 years and Rs.3000/-p.m. for in-service candidates with reimbursement of Rs.12,000/- p.m. Scholarship is awarded for pursuing M Phil and general PhD courses @ Rs.5000/-p.m. for all regular candidates.
  11. Scholarship for Diploma Programmes – A scholarship of Rs.500/-p.m. is awarded under merit and general category on submission of income certificate as above with a minimum of 45% in maths and science. Till date 5412 students have benefitted under the scheme.
  12. Scholarship to Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC), Dehradun – Financial assistance of Rs.10,000/-p.m. was awarded to local students studying in RIMC till 2002. From 2003 onwards it has been increased to Rs.20,000/- . Eight candidates have availed of this facility till date.
  13. Scholarship to Army School Students – Financial assistance of Rs.20,000/- annually is awarded to local students studying in Sainik School, Goalpara, Assam.
  14. Prerna Scholarship – This scheme is for the girl child and a scholarship of Rs.800 to 1200/- for class V and Rs.900 to 1500/- to class VIII is granted annually.
  15. Dr. BR Ambedkar Scholarship Scheme – Under this scheme, four class V topper Scheduled Caste students, one from each district, are provided with free education in Public Schools.
  16. Cash awards of Rs 1lakh,Rs 75000/- and Rs 50,000/- are granted to first three toppers in Class X & XII toppers.
