I attended the ‘Janta Mela’ held today at Jorethang, South Sikkim and distributed tokens of various items and welfare schemes to the beneficiaries of 5 Block Administrative Centres, namely BAC Poklok- Kamrang, BAC Namchi, BAC Sumbuk, BAC Namthang and BAC Sikkip. I also distributed tokens to the beneficiaries of Nayabazar-Jorethang Municipal Council and Namchi Municipal Council.

In my address, I informed the gathering that Sikkim is the only the state in the country to come up with the concept of mass distribution of welfare grants through ‘Janta Mela’ for the well- being of the people. From this year, we have started distributing grants and benefits to the people of the urban areas during the ‘Janta Mela’. The Government has also ensured that every household gets atleast one benefit/ grant. The only criteria for availing the benefits being any of the following documents:- SSC/CoI/ Land Parcha/ Residential Certificate (RC)/ Trade Licence/ Voter Card. In case any genuine beneficiaries are left out, the grants/ benefits would be provided to them by 15th Feb 2019.

I spoke at length about the newly introduced scheme of ‘One Family One Job’ (OFOJ), under which over 12,000 candidates have been appointed so far. The left out candidates would be issued appointment orders by 15th Feb 2019. I directed the respective MLAs and Panchayats to submit all such names with details to the Chief Minister’s Office by 5th Feb 2019. If there are any corrections to be made with regard to the appointment orders issued in the first phase, it should be brought to the Chief Minister’s Office for rectification.

Our policy of OFOJ is being appreciated by many. However, there are our detractors, who are misguiding the people with false information, saying these jobs are only for a period of three months. I reiterated and assured that these jobs are on adhoc basis and the services of all the appointees would be regularized after five years.

I informed the gathering that the State Government has maintained peace and security in the State for the last 25 years. We have protected the Olds Laws and guaranteed all rights and privileges to the people of all communities. It is a known fact that many a times our Government has approached the Central Government for reservation of Limboo-Tamang seats. Similarly, our Government is putting in all efforts for the inclusion of the 11 left out communities in the Scheduled Tribe list.

Earlier in the day, I inaugurated the Bus and Truck Terminus with allied facilities at Jorethang and dedicated it to the people of the region.
