As a part of the ongoing ‘Gram Swaraj Abhiyan'(Janta Mela) today, I distributed tokens to the beneficiaries of 3 constituencies –Lachen Mangan, Kabi -Lungchuk and Dzongu under North District at Mangan public ground.
The main objective of the ‘Janta Mela’ is to provide all welfare schemes and grants directly to the people at the same time. It also aims at informing the people about welfare schemes and grants of the Governments, which are introduced for their upliftment and wellbeing. The State Government is always committed towards providing better facilities and welfare schemes to the people. Through such initiatives, we have been able to fulfill the basic minimum needs of our people. There are schemes like providing land to landless ‘sukumbasis’ and construction of houses by the Government, which are unique to Sikkim. Among others, I informed the gathering that over the 24 years of our governance, the State Government has been providing qualitative health care services, free education from pre-primary to college level, road connectivity to link all villages and free electricity in rural areas. These facilities were unheard of till we formed the Government.
To the youth of the District, I suggested them to avail the Start-up scheme, where the Government is providing loans upto to 20 lakhs and with 35% subsidy. They should be able to venture into sectors like tourism and organic agriculture, which are lucrative modern day professions. As Sikkim has earned the brand name of being fully organic, I suggested to them to establish agro-based industries and cash on our status of being the only and the first organic state.
Earlier in the morning, I inaugurated the newly constructed ‘Organic Vegetable Marketing Centre-cum-Cold Storage’ at Mangan Lal Bazar complex. I also inaugurated the Trauma Centre and Tuberculosis (TB) Hospital at Mangan Hospital premises and dedicated it to the people of North Sikkim.
