I was pleased to attend the Valedictory Function of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of Kewzing Senior Secondary School today.

At the outset of my address, I congratulated the students, the teaching fraternity, the local gentry and the Platinum Jubilee Celebration Committee on completing 82 glorious years of the School’s establishment. I remembered and paid tributes to all those who contributed towards setting up this educational institution, including the teaching staff and the land donors for their valuable service and contributions.

I am happy to learn that the students of this institution are actively involved in extra-curricular activities on waste management system, plastic management system and organic farming in the school premises, which I am sure, will be an example for other schools to learn from.

I advised the students to set high goals and move ahead in life with never give up attitude as perseverance is the key to success. Students can achieve success in whatever field they choose to if they labour hard with sincerity and determination. They should to be able face challenges and accept failure as a part of life, and learn from their mistakes. But success alone should never be their goal. They should aim for a meaningful life as well for, it is only a meaningful life that makes a person contended and happy. I urged the students to give up the traditional thinking of considering only government jobs as means of employment. They need to venture into service sectors of the modern day world which offer numerous opportunities for gainful employment. Our young minds have to be aware of this and prepare themselves to be employable human resource in these lucrative professions.

I informed that the State Government has provided ample facilities for students like free education till college level, scholarship schemes etc. so that hopes and aspirations of every student, including those belonging to under privileged families can be fulfilled. I urged the students to make the best use of these opportunities to their advantage. I also exhorted the parents to ensure that their children study atleast till graduation level when education is free for all.

On the occasion, I unveiled the statue of Great Lama Gyalwa Ngadak Sempa Chenpo Phuntshog Rinzing, one of the three lamas who crowned the first Chogyal and led to the establishment of Sikkim as a Country.

I made the following announcements:-

1. Science and Commerce streams will be started in the School from the next academic session.

2. Construction of a new 12-roomed school building.
